Brigadier Simone Louise Wilkie

Brigadier Simone Wilkie completed her secondary education at Ballarat Grammar and was commissioned into the Royal Australian Corps of Signals in 1983. As a junior officer she served in a variety of training and telecommunications roles. Highlights include working with young officer cadets at the Royal Military College – Duntroon (RMC-D) and as the Adjutant to Australia’s communications unit in Cambodia in 1993.

As a more senior Army officer, Simone has been employed in a range of appointments in Human Resource Management, logistics and as the Assistant Chief of Staff to General Petreaus during the surge in Iraq in 2007.

Simone has commanded at every rank and was the first female commanding officer at Duntroon and Commandant at the Army Recruit Training Centre at Kapooka.

In Jan 2008 Simone was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia in the Australia Day Awards. She is currently the Director General Training at Headquarters Force Command Victoria Barracks in Sydney. In this role she is responsible for oversight of the policy and delivery of approximately ninety percent of Army’s training.

Simone has a Bachelor of Social Science (Human Resource Management), a Graduate Diploma in Telecommunications Systems Management, a Graduate Diploma of Strategic Studies, and a Masters of Defence Studies. Simone’s husband, Bill, is also a serving member of the Australian Army. Simone’s leisure interests include travelling, house renovating and sport, particularly golf and hockey.
